Balneario La Isleta
La Isleta is Tamuín's low-key river day: a balneario on the Río Tampaón where locals swim, picnic under palapas and put in for short boat runs, far from the tour circuits that crowd the Tamasopo side of the river. It is a working-family kind of place — cheap, unpretentious, best understood as a base for the area's big draws (Tamtoc is minutes away) rather than a destination itself. The Google listing reports 24-hour access, though the facilities follow daylight hours, and the water here is the same jade current that carries lanchas to Tamul an hour upstream.

Open in Google Maps ↗Getting there without a car
On the Tamuín side, a short drive from town on the road toward the Las Palmas area. Without a car, a taxi from Tamuín center works and is cheap — agree on a return time, as there is no transport queue at the gate. Pair it with Tamtoc for a full archaeology-and-water day.
Full transport guide on huastecapotosina.org ↗What to bring
Swimsuit, water shoes for the riverbank, your own food and shade (palapas fill on weekends), and cash for the modest entry. Life jackets if kids are swimming outside the marked areas.
Rainy season & safety
After heavy rains the Tampaón rises and browns fast; when the water loses its color, swimming closes and locals just picnic. Dry season (November–May) is the reliable window.
When to go, month by month on huastecapotosina.org ↗Good to know
- The natural combo: Tamtoc ruins in the morning, La Isleta swim after lunch.
- Weekends are local-family time — go weekday if you want quiet.
- Confirm opening hours on arrival; the 24-hour listing reflects access, not full service.
