Ready-made trips through the Huasteca, built only from officially open places. Every stop links to its guide.
3 days · Ciudad Valles
The classic first contact: one big boat waterfall, one dawn in a pit of birds, and a swim on arrival. Tight, cheap and it covers the three images that made you look up the Huasteca.
🗓 Year-round; best November to April
Day 1 — Arrive & swim
Night bus or morning flight+micro from CDMX to Ciudad Valles. Drop bags, and by 3 pm be floating under the seven drops of Micos — 15 minutes from downtown, tubes and jumps included.
Day 2 — Tamul by boat
Morning colectivo to Tanchachín and a lancha up the Río Tampaón to the 105 m wall of Tamul. Back by early afternoon; optional caving stop at Mantetzulel on the road home.
Day 3 — The birds & home
5 am taxi to the Sótano de las Golondrinas for the dawn exodus of thousands of swifts. Back to Valles for a late zacahuil lunch and the evening bus south.
2 days · Tamasopo
Zero logistics, maximum water. Base yourself in one hotel in Tamasopo town and walk or taxi to everything: swims under the town falls, the blue cathedral of Puente de Dios, and palapa lunches over the river.
🗓 Perfect for Semana Santa and summer vacations
Day 1 — The town falls
Arrive from Valles (1 h), check in near the plaza. Afternoon at the Tamasopo falls: pools, swim-through caves behind the curtain and palapas for the parents. Dinner in town.
Day 2 — Puente de Dios & the chill
Be at Puente de Dios for opening at 7 am — turquoise pools inside a stone cathedral, before the crowds. Then El Trampolín or the seven falls of Hacienda Gómez, lunch over the water, and home.
5 days · Valles → Aquismón → Xilitla → Tamasopo
Everything the region is famous for, north to south: rivers, pits, surrealism and archaeology. One night in Valles, one in Xilitla, the rest wherever the day ends. For travelers with a rented car or good colectivo patience.
🗓 November to April for clear water everywhere
Day 1 — Valles & Micos
Arrive, swim Micos at sunset, stock cash (ATMs thin out fast outside Valles).
Day 2 — Pits of the north
Dawn at the Golondrinas; on the way back, the caves of Mantetzulel. Overnight in Aquismón or back in Valles.
Day 3 — Tamul & the river
Boat to Tamul from Tanchachín or La Morena; afternoon drive south on the mountain road to Xilitla in time for coffee on the plaza.
Day 4 — Xilitla surreal
Morning inside Las Pozas; afternoon between the Ex Convento murals and the Leonora Carrington museum. Sleep in Xilitla — you will want the coffee again.
Day 5 — South & home
Puente de Dios at opening, a last swim at the Tamasopo falls, and the return — with a stop at Tamtoc if your bus leaves from Valles via Tamuín.
