Cascada Tambaque

6.5 / 10Open4.9

Tambaque is the Huasteca as locals keep it: a waterfall on the Aquismón side with a 4.9 Google rating and almost no tourism infrastructure — no ticket booth in the listings, no vest rentals, just water dropping into pools that nearby ejido communities swim in on Sundays. It sits in the same municipality as the region's heavyweights (Golondrinas, Huahuas, Puente de Dios) yet appears in none of their itineraries, which is exactly its appeal for travelers who have already done the classics and want one more blue pool without a queue behind it.

Getting there without a car

In the Rancho Nuevo area of Aquismón, on roads where signage disappears — navigate by pin and ask locals in the last village; that last stretch is part of the experience. A car (high-clearance preferred) is the practical way in; rural taxis from Aquismón town will negotiate the run.

What to bring

Everything: water, food, vests if you want them, shoes for wet rock, cash for the community fee collected on site, and trash bags — there is no service here to leave anything with. Offline maps are not optional.

Rainy season & safety

Aquismón's slopes concentrate rain; after storms the falls rage and the pools turn brown and dangerous. In the dry season the water runs clear and the approach stays firm — December to May is the window.

Good to know

  • Treat it as a locals' add-on to the Aquismón classics, not a first stop — and keep expectations flexible.
  • Ask in Rancho Nuevo about current access; ejido rules change seasonally.
  • This is a leave-no-trace swim: whatever you carry in, carries out.
