Castillo de la Salud "Beto Ramón"
In Ahuacatitla, on the Axtla river plain, herbalist Beto Ramón built a castle — towers, bridges and murals raised as a monument to natural medicine, part theme park, part temple, entirely personal. The visit runs like the man himself: a guided walk through rooms dedicated to herbs and traditional healing, optional limpias espirituales, relaxing massages and herbal consultations on site. It is one of the Huasteca's strangest and most sincere attractions — $30 MXN, zero crowds, and a reminder that the region's tourist map was drawn by locals with obsessions, not consultants.

Location & contact
Getting there without a car
In Ahuacatitla, municipio of Axtla de Terrazas, on the Valles–Tamazunchale corridor — easy by car, about 1.5 hours from Ciudad Valles. By public transport, any Tamazunchale-bound bus passes Axtla; then a local taxi. Groups should call ahead and reserve.
Full transport guide on huastecapotosina.org ↗What to bring
Cash for entry ($30 MXN) and whatever treatment tempts you; an open mind — this is folk medicine, presented with pride. Comfortable shoes for the tower stairs; the site is bigger than it looks from the road.
Rainy season & safety
Mostly outdoor corridors — a brief Huasteca downpour pauses the tour but the site reopens fast. It is a year-round, weather-light stop that pairs well with a river afternoon in Axtla.
When to go, month by month on huastecapotosina.org ↗Good to know
- Take the guided tour — the castle only makes sense through Beto Ramón's story.
- Book massages and limpias ahead for groups; the therapists are few.
- Check the official site (betoramon.com.mx) or call before a long detour; hours can shift.
