El Nacimiento II
El Nacimiento II is a spring-fed pool complex near Xilitla where the water comes straight out of the mountain — which reviewers mention within one sentence of every single visit: it is cold. Shockingly, gloriously cold, and so transparent you can watch fish from the bank. What surrounds the spring is a family playground built for full days: shallow shelves of 40–70 cm where kids stand safely, a boya line for the current, palapas and grills, a seafood restaurant, bungalows and even camping included with the ticket. It is the Xilitla area's best value water day — $50 MXN with parking and bathrooms — as long as you accept the cold.

Open in Google Maps ↗Getting there without a car
A short drive from Xilitla on accessible roads — one of the easiest springs to reach by regular car. Without a car, taxi from Xilitla and fix the return. Entry is $50 per person (under-6s free) and covers parking, bathrooms and changing rooms — keep the ticket, it gets checked at the door.
Full transport guide on huastecapotosina.org ↗What to bring
Water shoes (rocky bottom everywhere), a snorkel mask — the fish and the spring vent deserve it — and the mindset to just get in: the cold is brutal for the first minute and fine once you swim. Vest rental runs about $50/day and is only needed for the deeper section. You can bring your own food and grill; on-site food costs tourist prices.
Rainy season & safety
Being spring-fed, the pool stays clear and constant when rivers elsewhere turn brown after storms — a smart bad-weather-week backup in the Xilitla area. The covered palapas make light rain a non-issue.
When to go, month by month on huastecapotosina.org ↗Good to know
- Arrive 8–10 am: reviewers are unanimous that by midday in holiday weeks the small site fills and the water churns.
- Tables with chairs rent for ~$200 — worth it for a group spending the day.
- No shower, and the changing rooms need your entry ticket; don't lose it.
