Hacienda Gómez y sus 7 Cascadas
On the old Hacienda Gómez land between Tamasopo and Agua Buena, the river steps down seven consecutive waterfalls through a private property turned swim park — the "7 Cascadas" of the name. Each fall spills into its own pool, so a visit is a staircase of swims rather than one lookout: wade the lower pools, climb the trail beside the chain, pick your poza. The ejido-style operation is simple (entry, mandatory vests, ropes on the deep sections), and because the famous falls of Tamasopo absorb the crowds, seven cascades can feel like a private playground even on weekends.

Getting there without a car
On the Tamasopo–Agua Buena road, 20–30 minutes from Tamasopo town by car — the last stretch narrows; drive slow. Without a car, this is a taxi-negotiation destination from Tamasopo (fix a return time) or a stop on local tours of the falls circuit.
Full transport guide on huastecapotosina.org ↗What to bring
Water shoes for the slick travertine, a dry bag, the mandatory life vest (rented at the gate), and food/water — services are minimal and cash is the only currency. Climbing between cascades means re-walking wet stone: grippy soles over bravado.
Rainy season & safety
Rains make the seven falls roar — and make the connecting trail slippery and the pools turbulent. Dry season (November–May) is the transparent-water, sure-footed window; after big storms ask at the gate before entering.
When to go, month by month on huastecapotosina.org ↗Good to know
- Chain it with Minas Viejas and Puente de Dios — the three make the definitive Tamasopo day.
- Work upstream: the upper cascades are the prettiest and empty out first.
- Keep the vest on even in shallow pools; the currents between falls are stronger than they look.
