Tamaya Complejo Turístico
Tamaya bets on the full-package model: hotel, restaurant, pool with waterslides and direct river frontage on the Tamasopo–Agua Buena road — sleep, swim and eat without moving the car. The river and the pool are genuinely good (reviewers concede both, and the pyramid-framed slide is a kid magnet), but the complex runs at capacity with day-guests on weekends and the hotel side is the weak link: recurring complaints about maintenance (showers running only hot, leaks), slow restaurant service and inconsistent front-desk treatment. Verdict from the reviews: come for the river day, temper hotel expectations, confirm everything by WhatsApp in writing.

Location & contact
Getting there without a car
At km 2.5 of the Tamasopo–Agua Buena road — minutes from Tamasopo town by car or taxi, and on the same circuit as Minas Viejas and Puente de Dios. River access runs 8 am–7 pm; pool 11 am–9 pm.
Full transport guide on huastecapotosina.org ↗What to bring
Your own towels (the hotel rations them and bans them poolside), flip-flops for wet floors, and written confirmation of your room rate — walk-in mismatches are the most repeated complaint. Overnighters: don't count on the room wifi or TV, and pack a flashlight — the stairway up to the pyramid slide is unlit after dark. Day visitors: arrive early for a table; weekend capacity is real.
Rainy season & safety
Rain empties the day-crowd fast, which ironically makes it the best time to have the river and pool — the complex rides light weather fine. Only sustained storms close the river access.
When to go, month by month on huastecapotosina.org ↗Good to know
- Day visit over overnight, per the review pattern: the river and pool deliver, and the room-side gripes run from hot-only showers to slow restaurant service.
- Keep the arrival wristbands — losing one costs $100 MXN at checkout, without warning.
- Weekday visits dodge the crowding problem: weekends fill with balneario day-trippers and music.
